The Victorian union movement has a longstanding interest in putting working-class activists in positions of legislative power. In 2024 we'll be running training for union members interested in running for public office, with a focus on local council. https://ow.ly/lYn450RrvqS

Happy May Day - the International Day of Working Class solidarity. This day celebrates the achievements of workers in union and commemorates the Haymarket massacre, where in 1886 workers in Chicago were murdered for striking for an 8 hour day - some 30 years after Victorian stonemasons had won the right. Today we remember that each victory we win - from the 8 hour day, to the weekend, to banning asbestos, to family violence leave and the right to disconnect - helps our fellow workers around the world win changes in their workplaces too. We rise together. ✊

A recent survey showing that 1 in 7 Australians admit to sexually harassing a colleague shows that businesses are failing to uphold their legal and ethical duties in creating safer workplaces. But employers are more concerned with silencing complaints than stopping harassment. https://ow.ly/uVOZ50RruxP

For every worker killed by machinery, collisions, or falls, there are others killed by prolonged exposure to hazardous materials, or the cumulative impact of work on their mental health. On International Workers' Memorial Day, we remember them too. https://ow.ly/F7p850RmOQB
